Prior to moving to Texas, Gunnar spent time in St. Louis working as a product manager for Stored Value Cards and Gift Cheques at American Express Incentive Services. He relocated to Austin in 2004 to become Director of Portfolio Management for NetSpend Corporation, one of the largest issuers of Visa and Mastercard-branded prepaid debit cards in the U.S.
In 2007, Gunnar was hired to run a large Austin family office. There, he helped found Vida Capital Inc., which has quickly grown to become one of the largest U.S.-based asset managers in the Life Settlements space, with over $2B in AUM. As Vida’s VP of International Operations, he formed and oversaw the company’s Luxembourg entities in 2009 and ran its European operations until his transition to Ovation Partners, a $700M private equity firm, in 2014.
At Ovation, Gunnar launched the company’s SFR activities and oversaw the origination and management of almost 1,900 homes in six states and ten MSAs. This portfolio was accumulated in less than three years by US REVI, and valued at over $200 million. The company eventually exited the SFR space and sold the portfolio at a significant gain to a large private REIT and several institutional private equity investors.
In 2018, Gunnar joined Longhorn and US REVI as Chief Investment Officer to focus on, among other things, fundraising, capital markets, and investor relations.
Gunnar grew up in Berlin, Germany. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration and a M.S. in Economics and Corporate Management from the Otto Beisheim School of Management in Koblenz, Germany. He also holds an MBA degree from the Lancaster University Management School in Lancaster, England.
He lives in Austin with his wife Salina and their two boys, Lucas and Liam. His favorite pastime is watching movies with his family at Alamo Drafthouse.
